Meet MyFamily!

These little (and not so little) creatures are the reasons I decided to open up Birdie Bazaar. They are my"children" and I love them dearly. They have taught me what it means to be a responsible parrot parent and that is why we want to give all of the other parrot parents out there the knowledge, advice and tools they need to provide for their parrots properly.

You see, I am a pet lover myself, owned by several parrots (and one sweet dog, Tillie.)  Oscar, my rescue Congo African Grey, (who calls himself "the doctor", and who thinks it is his job to help in Tillie’s training by saying,  “Sit, Stay, Gooood Girrrll!",  when he sees Tillie.  At first, she obeyed, but now she just sees it as his greeting to her.  One day, my friend came in to the kitchen to prepare some food, ignoring Oscar's presence on his playstand, and he promptly said, "Say Hello to the DOCTOR!!"  She was overcome with laughter, and quickly obeyed his command!  

My other parrots include an Indian Hawkhead, Chloe, a sweet rehomed   bird who laughs and makes sounds of kisses, but only says "out" and "up"; Pookie, a Yellow Back Chattering Lory, who says “Want some juice?" every time she sees me take a drink from the refrigerator. She learned this from my taking juice from the fridge, and saying "want some juice?" to her and her cage mate as they perched on their playstand.  I also have a Violet Neck Eos Lorikeet,named Squirt, who nods his head "yes" when asked if he is a good boy,and tries to say all the words that Pookies clearly says, but squirt says them all in a "Donald Duck" type voice.  I have several sweet and tame peachface lovebirds (mom, dad and babies, whom I have handfed and carried around in a homemade furry carrier around my neck that I called a "chickapoose.", and a couple sweet rescue cockatiels, Sunny, Stormy, who will whistle exact whistle cadences back to me, and Buddy, another rescue bird, who is just plain sweet as pie.

 When I get up in the morning or come home from work, my lories and Grey will cheerfully call "Hi Babies!"... but when I come in tired and worn down, they say "Hi Babies" in a tired, sorrowful voice...they pick up on our emotional tone accurately; and both my Congo African Grey and Chattering Lory speak in context, (not just mimic, as some believe parrots do) My pets are are my feathered and furry  antidepressants.
